comparison
A bulk editor that writes, not just replaces.
Matrixify, Ablestar and Hextom are good at what they do: take a change you have already decided on and apply it to thousands of products. Fillwell starts one step earlier. It finds the products that need a change, writes a value for each one, and asks you to approve. This page puts the four apps and Shopify's own editor side by side, including where the others win.
the short version
Pick by the job, not the review count.
The three other apps all have 4.9 stars. The question is which job you are doing.
You move data between stores, or live in spreadsheets
Matrixify. Files to 20 GB, orders, customers, discounts, scheduled imports. Nothing else here comes close.
You change prices, tags or inventory on a schedule
Ablestar or Hextom. Both revert, both schedule, both filter well. Hextom is the cheaper of the two.
You do not know which products need fixing, and each needs its own value
Fillwell. The scan finds them, AI writes each one, you approve. A fixed value across a set works too.
side by side
One table, thirteen rows.
A check means it does it. A dash means it does it with a caveat, written in the cell. A cross means it does not.

Prices and review counts from the Shopify App Store listings for Matrixify, Ablestar Bulk Product Editor and Hextom Bulk Product Edit on September 22, 2026. Ablestar's own comparisons, against Matrixify and against Hextom, are fair and worth reading.
the first row
The step before the bulk edit is the expensive one.
Every bulk editor starts after you know what to change. Finding out is the work: which 140 products have no alt text, which 45 are still on a default title, which vendor is spelled three ways. That is a spreadsheet afternoon before any tool helps. Fillwell's scan does that afternoon's work for you, and you can run it again as the catalog grows.
The scan finds the work
Free. Every empty field and every inconsistent value, counted.
It writes or you set
AI writes a value per product, or you set one across the set.
You approve
A page at a time, or in bulk with review after. Nothing saves until you say yes. Undo anything.
Bulk edits are part of every paid plan. The scan and the checks are free on every plan.
good to know
Common questions
Is Fillwell a replacement for Matrixify?
Only if what you use Matrixify for is changing product data. Fillwell has no product file import or export, does not touch orders or customers, and does not migrate stores. If you live in spreadsheets, or move data between stores, keep Matrixify. If you export a sheet, fill a column by hand, and import it back to fix product fields, that is the job Fillwell does without the sheet.
What does Fillwell do that a bulk editor cannot?
Two things. It finds the work: the scan counts every product with a missing category, blank details, no description, no alt text, default SEO or a missing translation, and the checks find vendors, tags and titles that are inconsistent. And it writes a different value for each product, from that product's own text, which a find-and-replace editor cannot.
Can I set the same value across many products, like Ablestar or Hextom?
Yes. Filter the set, choose a fixed value, approve. Fixed values use no AI credits. Fillwell is not the cheapest way to do only that. Shopify's own editor is free, and Hextom starts at $9.99. Fillwell's fixed values cover title, vendor, product type and metafields, not prices or inventory. Fillwell earns its price when some of the values have to be written, not copied.
Which is safer?
Ablestar and Hextom both keep a history and can revert an edit, and both are well reviewed for it. Fillwell shows a page of values before it saves, or runs in bulk with review after, logs old and new, and undoes one row, one page or a whole run afterwards. Shopify's own bulk editor has no undo at all, so note the old values before you use it.
Does Fillwell run edits on a schedule?
No. You can rescan any time to pick up new gaps, and an edit runs when you approve it. If you need a price change every Friday at midnight, that is Ablestar or Hextom.
What does it cost?
The scan and the checks are free on every plan. Bulk edits need a paid plan, from $20 a month with 1,000 AI credits. A fixed-value edit uses no credits; an AI-written value uses one per value, and you see the count before you run anything. Extra credits are 2 cents each up to a limit you set.
you're in control
Approve each change, or bulk fill and undo anything.
AI can do this work. It shouldn't do it alone. Fillwell is built that way on purpose.
- You guide it. Tell it what to do in plain words.
- It skips when unsure. It never guesses into your live store.
- You can undo anything. One row, one page, or all of it, for 30 days.
Your store. Your decision.
